Will the new brand Shangxia of Hermes be successful?

Last Thursday, on September 14th, the first store of Shangxia opened in Shanghai, China. From the overwhelming news in last few months, we know that Shangxia, located in Shanghai China was purchased by Hermes Group to extend new market in China. This is the first time that Hermes Group gets involved in brand creation. Before, Hermes group never did like this, but mainly purchased brands.



Qionger Jiang, the local Shanghai girl, has been the art director of Shangxia. On September 14th, she wore cashmere and felt clothes of Hermes to take photos to propagandize the brand. She said her dream is taking the bright future of high level handicraft art of China again. After graduated from Tongji University, she went to Paris to learn decorative art from 2001-2004. She is such a talented artist that after four years learning when she got back to China, she began her work not only in interior design but also in jewelry design, dress designing, furniture designing and holding art exhibition. This time, she is also in charge of the window display of Hermes China. As we know, all of the products of Brand Shangxia will be made in China by local materials and local technical art. The products range from clothes to accessories, furniture and other commemorates. Everyone knows that products from Hermes Group, such as Herms women`s dress, Hermes handbags, perfumes etc are quite popular although the prices of them are very high. Will the public accept the new brand Shangxia in competitive prices but not made in France?



The emerging of brand Shangxia dated from two years ago. At a dinner party, Qionger Jiang met Patrick Thomas – the president of Hermes while he was looking for a right person to take responsibility for the developing plan of "Chinese Hermes". Qionger Jiang suggest forging one high level Chinese style brand. After two years` consideration, Thomas decided to leave brand Shangxia to Qinger JIang to develop. She will design and produce the products by local materials together with other local designers. Will this talented strong woman take a bright future for brand Shangxia?
